DPP Expert Circles

The Digital Product Passport is becoming operational. Is your company?

Digital Product Passport requirements are becoming concrete. But translating them into product data, supplier processes, system architecture and operational responsibilities raises questions that companies cannot solve from regulatory texts alone.

Our DPP Expert Circles bring together industry leaders from the same industries to work through these questions together.

Compare approaches with Heads of Product Compliance, Procurement Executives, Sustainability Leaders and Supply Chain Decision-Makers. Discuss regulatory developments and what they mean for your company in practice. Bring your current implementation challenges. And build on every session as requirements and your own DPP setup evolve.

Industry-specific circles. Recurring online sessions. Onsite meetings in the DPP oLAB Cologne.

Why DPP Expert Circles

Start solving tomorrow’s DPP requirements today.

Preparing for the Digital Product Passport goes far beyond a QR code. It takes collaboration, practical insights, and shared expertise:

How it works
  • Connect with practitioners from your industry

Each Expert Circle brings together people responsible for DPP preparation and implementation in their companies. The groups are industry-specific so discussions stay close to the products, supply chains and regulatory requirements you actually work with.

  • Bring your current DPP challenges

The sessions are built around practical questions. Members can bring topics from their own DPP projects - from data availability and supplier collaboration to regulatory interpretation, identifiers and implementation processes.

  • Compare approaches

Understand how other companies are structuring their DPP programs, where they are starting and which challenges they are encountering. The objective is not to define one standard approach, but to make better decisions based on practical exchange.

  • Move from discussion to practice

Selected meetings take place at the DPP oLAB in the GS1 Knowledge Center Cologne, where members can explore the DPP process with real products and practical use cases.

Cell data, BOM-to-DPP and Right to Repair

18 February 2027 is the deadline, not the starting point, for mandatory Digital Battery Passports on EV, LMT and industrial batteries above 2 kWh. Compliance means unifying cell, module and pack data with verified supplier and carbon data, accessible to regulators, recyclers and repair professionals.

The Battery & Electronics Expert Circle covers structuring BOM and cell data into a DPP, role-based access, and aligning Battery Regulation with Right to Repair.

Topics we dive into

  • BOM-to-DPP: cell, module and pack data
  • Supplier & carbon data: material and PEF footprints
  • DPP architecture: identifiers and QR access
  • Right to Repair: health, removability, spare parts
  • Role-based access: regulator, recycler, repairer views
  • Keeping the DPP current: tracking changes

The goal is building the data and architecture behind a Battery Passport, not explaining it.

For: OEMs, battery and electronics manufacturers, and compliance or repair practitioners.

DPP readiness across hundreds of suppliers

For textile brands, DPP readiness is a supply chain data challenge: composition, origin, certifications and compliance evidence sit scattered across suppliers and systems.

The DPP Expert Circle for Textiles turns fragmented supplier data into reliable product-level data, covering multi-tier visibility, traceability and ESPR readiness.

Topics we dive into

  • Material traceability: product to origin
  • Multi-tier supplier data: beyond direct suppliers
  • Product-level data: composition and variants
  • Circularity: durability, repairability, end-of-life
  • Claims & evidence: claims with documentation
  • ESPR readiness: a structure built to evolve

The challenge is building the data foundation to manage thousands of textile DPPs, not just one.

For: Brands, manufacturers and retailers, plus compliance or sourcing practitioners.

EPR turns packaging decisions into financial, operational and data decisions, reaching far beyond packaging

Across consumer goods, electronics, batteries, automotive and textiles, companies must know what they owe, where, for which material, and at what cost.

The EPR & Packaging Expert Circle addresses producer responsibility, reporting granularity, and how packaging decisions affect compliance risk and cost.

Topics we dive into

  • Who is the producer? Manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers
  • Beyond packaging: electronics, batteries, textiles and other streams
  • Data & reporting: quantities, weights, materials per market
  • PPWR & packaging: requirements into design decisions
  • Fees & costs: design choices and EPR contributions
  • Multi-country compliance: registrations, PROs, reporting
  • Circularity & eco-design: recyclability and reuse

The challenge is knowing what you place on each market, not whether EPR applies, and turning that into compliant reporting and controlled costs.

For: Manufacturers, brands, importers and retailers, plus EPR or compliance practitioners.

DPP oLAB

See how Digital Product Passports work in practice

Some questions become easier when you can work through the process with an actual product.

That is why the Expert Circles extend beyond online meetings.

On 2 December, members of all three Circles will meet at the DPP oLAB in the GS1 Knowledge Center Cologne.

Onsite capacity is limited. Expert Circle members receive priority access.

What we discuss

What topics will be covered?

The exact agenda develops with each Circle. Discussions can cover the complete DPP journey:

  • Regulatory requirements

What applies to our products and what should we prepare for now?

  • Product & component data

Which information already exists in ERP, PLM and other systems?

  • Supplier data

Which information needs to come from suppliers and how can it be collected efficiently?

  • Data gaps & evidence

Where is information missing and how can claims be linked to reliable evidence?

  • Traceability & identifiers

At which product, batch or item level does information need to be connected?

  • DPP architecture

How can existing data and systems become the foundation for the Digital Product Passport?

  • Data access

Which information needs to be available to regulators, supply chain partners, repairers or consumers?

  • Keeping the DPP current

How do changes to products, suppliers or compliance information flow into the passport?
