Partnership in the new “DPP oLAB” in Cologne demonstrates how legal transparency requirements can be used for direct customer interaction.
With the opening of the “DPP oLAB“ (Digital Product Passport) on January 28, 2026 at the GS1 Knowledge Center in Cologne, printing press manufacturer Koenig & Bauer and Mannheim-based software company osapiens are intensifying their collaboration. Central to the cooperation is the linkage of the AURAVEO Digital Experience Platform with the osapiens HUB, which serves as a central database bringing together all product, supply chain, and compliance information relevant to the Digital Product Passport throughout the entire product lifecycle. AURAVEO was developed by Koenig & Bauer Kyana, the group’s subsidiary specializing in software solutions. The aim of the partnership is to show how the interaction between the two systems not only fulfills the upcoming legal requirement for a Digital Product Passport (DPP) as a regulatory obligation but also establishes it as a new communication channel for brand manufacturers.

The DPP oLAB is supported by a network of partners who support the Digital Product Passport from different professional perspectives. In addition to Koenig & Bauer Kyana and osapiens, Impact Strategies, Capgemini, cattwyk, Westernacher, and Sustainable AG are also involved as partners. Together, they cover key aspects relating to strategy, regulation, technology, data integration, and implementation, and demonstrate in the DPP oLAB how companies can implement the Digital Product Pass in a holistic and practical manner.
Interested decision-makers from a wide range of industries – particularly from the DPP-focused sectors of consumer goods, textiles, and electronics – as well as specialized journalists and experts are invited to experience AURAVEO and osapiens’ DPP solutions live at the Digital Product Passport oLAB at the GS1 Knowledge Center in Cologne.
The Digital Product Passport is a central component of the EU sustainability strategy and bundles information on the entire life cycle of a product. For the DPP to work in practice, highly complex regulatory requirements must be translated into structured, standardized, and machine-readable data.
osapiens provides the technological foundation for this: The osapiens HUB collects, consolidates, and validates product and supply chain data throughout the entire lifecycle and converts regulatory requirements into a DPP-compatible, interoperable data model.
Building on this, Koenig & Bauer Kyana’s AURAVEO makes this information available to end customers. The Digital Experience Platform translates the information into interactive content for end customers. Instead of static data views, physical packaging becomes a digital touchpoint when scanned.
A concrete scenario: While the osapiens HUB provides the regulatory data, AURAVEO makes this information accessible directly on the product through on-package content, such as augmented reality (AR) content. Thereby, users can access virtual application tips, participate in loyalty programs, or reorder matching accessories and refills with a single click. This allows companies to directly link compliance information with visual storytelling, e-commerce offerings, and customer service.

“Intensifying our partnership is the logical response to increasingly complex market requirements,” explains Sandra Wagner, CEO of Koenig & Bauer Kyana. “By integrating our specialized software solutions with the osapiens HUB, we create strategic added value that goes far beyond mere compliance. Our shared goal is to leverage technological advances to transform regulatory data into high-quality customer experiences.”
The cooperation merges product and supply chain data from osapiens and the AURAVEO experience platform by Koenig & Bauer Kyana at a conceptual level to bring the Digital Product Passport (DPP) to life as an active customer channel. While the osapiens platform ensures the necessary transparency and data depth along the value chain, AURAVEO acts as a digital interface to the end customer. This integration enables the target group to be addressed directly at the point of sale or at home. By digitally enhancing packaging as a communication channel, companies can use their marketing resources more efficiently and significantly reduce spillage losses in customer communication.
Alberto Zamaro, co-founder & co-CEO of osapiens, comments on the partnership: “For many companies, the Digital Product Passport is a new standard that creates transparency throughout the product life cycle. Together with Koenig & Bauer Kyana and our partners, we are demonstrating in the DPP oLAB that it also represents an opportunity: When regulatory data is readily available, brands can derive transparency, trust, and new services from it.”
