GreenDot and osapiens have entered into a strategic partnership to bring to market the AI‑powered Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance solution for packaging that brand owners and producers across Europe have been waiting for.
Combining GreenDot’s deep expertise in EPR compliance, packaging licensing, and producer responsibility schemes across Europe with the osapiens HUB – osapiens’ AI-powered platform for sustainable growth – the partnership delivers the first integrated solution to make EPR and PPWR reporting across all EU markets seamless, scalable, and cost‑efficient.
The new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) set stricter standards for how packaging must be designed and recycled. At the same time, each European country still runs its own registration and reporting system. For companies operating across Europe, meeting all these different requirements is becoming increasingly complex and time-consuming. To address these challenges, GreenDot and osapiens develop a joint digital solution on the osapiens HUB platform. It connects directly to a company’s existing business software and pulls in key packaging details such as materials, weight, and recyclability. Based on this data, it automatically determines what a company owes in each European country and helps them achieve the optimal tariff structure across European markets.
A particular challenge is that packaging data is often held by suppliers rather than the companies themselves. The platform uses AI-assisted workflows and supplier collaboration tools to collect, verify, and keep this data up to date automatically replacing slow, manual processes. It also connects directly to national registration systems and EPR schemes via interfaces, helping companies handle the growing number of country-specific reporting requirements introduced under the PPWR.
By combining regulatory expertise with scalable digital infrastructure and automated workflows, GreenDot and osapiens aim to deliver the compliance solution many international producers have been seeking as PPWR requirements continue to expand across Europe.
Laurent Auguste, CEO of GreenDot, said: “Companies are increasingly concerned about the complexity and cost to administrate EPR compliance under the PPWR. Making the circular economy a reality at scale requires more tracking of material and transparency but, equally, it requires to strive to make each step of the value chain more competitive and optimized. Together with osapiens, we are bringing to market the smart digital solution the industry has been calling for. It provides a simple one-stop-shop solution for EPR reporting across Europe and enables to manage compliance in a much more cost-effective, efficient and scalable way.”
Stefan Wawrzinek, Co-Founder and Chairman at osapiens, added: “EPR compliance under the PPWR is becoming one of the most complex cross-border challenges for producers and brand owners across Europe. With GreenDot, we are combining the regulatory depth and market reach that this challenge requires with the AI-powered platform infrastructure to solve it at scale – giving companies the solution they need to manage this complexity efficiently and with confidence.”
The partnership reflects both companies’ leadership in continuously developing the transformative solutions that businesses need to succeed in their evolution towards the circular economy in Europe.
GreenDot is dedicated to address the plastic waste crisis by developing solutions and assets which close the circularity loop of plastics through the production of high-quality recyclates, including from difficult to recycle waste streams. The group’s portfolio spans both mechanical and chemical recycling, Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) licensing services as well as consulting on EPR systems and design-for-recycling.
The foundation of the group was laid more than 35 years ago in Germany with Der Grüne Punkt which created the world’s first nationwide EPR program for household packaging, including hard to recycle plastics like flexible films. Since then GreenDot constantly expanded its business areas in order to serve all requirements of the circular economy for plastics. To date GreenDot has presences in Germany, Austria, Italy as well as France, and continues to widen its global network.
